TOYOTA LAUNCHES FIRST FULLY ELECTRIC VEHICLE IN SA
Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) has entered the local battery electric vehicle (BEV) market with the launch of the Toyota bZ4X, its first fully electric model. Priced at R1.18 million and offering a claimed driving range of around 450km, the all-electric SUV represents a significant milestone for the country’s best-selling automotive brand, although its premium price may place it beyond the reach of many consumers.
The bZ4X builds on the popularity of practical, family-oriented SUVs such as the RAV4, while introducing customers to fully electric mobility. Rather than being designed solely for city use, the bZ4X also delivers credible off-road capability, making it suitable for South African driving conditions. While some advocate for a fully electric future, Toyota maintains that no single technology will suit every market.
