THE BMW M340i

The BMW M340i xDrive is a unique blend of power and sophistication with its newly developed 3.0-litre, straight-six, bi-turbo engine delivering 387 horsepower.  Its distinctive sporty character coupled together with its more docile side, when not engaged in sport modes, offers you the best ‘split personality’ on wheels!

This powerhouse excels in acceleration, cornering dynamics, agility, precision, and braking, setting new standards in driving dynamics. Achieving this feat is a result of a low centre of gravity, optimised weight distribution, increased body rigidity, and upgraded suspension components. The M Sport suspension, variable sports steering, M Sport differential, M Sport brake system, and 18-inch M light alloy wheels with mixed tyres come as standard features, enhancing the M340i xDrive’s performance. But then, a simple switch into comfort mode offers you a completely different drive, a sublimely smooth family rated BMW 3 Series.

The wide, low-slung, front design featuring large BMW kidney grille inserts with Adaptive LED headlights and BMW Laserlight, which offers variable road illumination. Aerodynamic enhancements include a body-coloured M rear spoiler and 18-inch M light alloy wheels with mixed tyres.

Inside the cabin, the focus is on delivering a modern space that maximises driving enjoyment. Sport seats offer excellent lateral support and enhanced adjustability. The interior ambience is enhanced with features such as the Anthracite BMW Individual roof liner, BMW Individual High-Gloss Shadow Line elements, M leather steering wheel with shift paddles, M seat belts, and Aluminium Tetragon interior trim. Notably, the interior is spacious and comfortable, with ample shoulder room in the front and generous legroom in the rear. The modified roof edge and side skirt contouring facilitate easy access for rear passengers, and the rear compartment can accommodate three child seats Ð with two lockable – using ISOFIX anchor points.

Under the bonnet the M340i xDrive packs a potent 3.0-litre straight-six engine producing 387 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. This powerplant is unbelievably quick with a 0-100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds accompanied by a bouquet of exhaust notes – courtesy of the M Sport exhaust unit – which really comes to life when engaged in SPORT or SPORT+ modes.

Driven by BMW’s 8-speed Sport Steptronic transmission, that features optimised hydraulic control, shorter gearing, and a Launch Control function. The transmission adapts its shift strategy based on your route and driving conditions, constantly providing efficient gear changes.

The M Sport suspension delivers incredible performance with precise kinematics and elastokinematics, making use of firmer springs and anti-roll bars, along with increased wheel camber. The Variable Sport steering offers more direct and agile responses, while the M Sport brakes feature short pedal travel and a distinct pressure point, ensuring excellent braking performance.

Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) offers various functions, including ABS, Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), and Performance Control, which improves agility by redistributing power to the rear wheels. The BMW M340i xDrive is naturally equipped with BMW’s own xDrive, providing fully variable power distribution between the front and rear axles. The standard M Sport rear differential enhances traction, stability, and cornering dynamics.

In conclusion, the BMW M340i xDrive combines a powerful engine, advanced transmission, and a host of performance-enhancing features to deliver an exhilarating driving experience. Its sporty design, comfortable interior, and cutting-edge technology make it a standout choice for those seeking both luxury and high-performance capabilities in one package.

Classic COrner & REStoration

Classic cars are the next big investment. As such the sector of restoration is growing in the realms of collision repair and it’s definitely the “sexier” side of the business. There are many opportunities to create exotic special-builds as well as keep timeless beauties in mint condition.

TRAINING

Knowledge is power. Training is key to up-skilling repairers as models launch onto our local roads faster than we can count. We also need to grow new talent into the collision repair industry. Courses are available to help and organisations are in place to train – this information is in Industry Index.
