PREPARATION DETERMINES PERFORMANCE

Big Five Accident Repair Centre Centre are based in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, and have been enjoying successful growth and expansion for over a decade. “Growth didn’t happen overnight. It was built job by job, relationship by relationship. From the beginning, the focus was never just on fixing vehicles – it was about raising the standard of what an accident repair centre should be. Every year we’ve reinvested into better equipment, stronger systems, and more training. That discipline is what has kept us competitive and respected.” Says Mano Nayager, “Captain” of Big Five Accident Repair Centre.

Jayshree Nayager handles the finances, while Mano is hands-on in operations quality control, customer relationships and leadership within the team.

They have a team of over 50 skilled professionals – panel beaters, spray painters, strip-and-fit technicians, polishers, and administrative support. The company handle the full spectrum – from minor SMART repairs to major structural collision rebuilds.

They recently installed the Octoral refinishing system to enhance their colour accuracy, workflow efficiency and environmental performance. “Modern vehicle finishes – pearls, metallics, tri-coats – require extremely precise colour matching. Octoral gives us advanced mixing technology and consistency that supports both quality and productivity. It’s about staying ahead,” says Mano.

The company have experienced an immediate reduction in material waste and better spraybooth efficiency. Faster drying cycles and improved colour matching is allowing the team at Big Five Accident Repair Centre to reduce any reworks. Efficiency without compromising quality is the goal for the team.

Continual training is what gives them that extra edge. They have an internal mentorship programme where senior artisans train younger technicians. Supplier-led and product specific training session are attended regularly so as to stay ahead of any new systems, advanced coatings or materials that may be on the horizon.

“Our work comes from a combination of insurance partnerships, broker relationships, fleet accounts, and strong word of mouth. Word of mouth is the most powerful endorsement. When someone who has experienced our service recommends us during a stressful time after an accident, that trust is invaluable. You can’t market integrity. You earn it.

“At Big Five, we’re not just repairing vehicles – we’re restoring safety, confidence, and trust. The industry will keep evolving. Technology will keep advancing. But principles remain the same – honesty, discipline, and excellence. That’s what built this business. And that’s what will carry it forward,” concluded Mano.
