GLOBAL AUTO COATINGS CELEBRATE 20 YEARS OF SUCCESS WITH PPG
The team at Global Auto Coatings, based in Benoni, Johannesburg, recently celebrated a significant milestone — 20 years of successful partnership with global coatings leader PPG.
Company spokesman Rivenn Pillay reflected proudly on the company’s journey since its founding by himself, his father Preggie Pillay, and Wayne Nortje. What began as a small operation has grown into a thriving business, now expanded with a second branch in Bloemfontein.
From the outset, the company’s philosophy has centred on delivering advanced coating technologies backed by exceptional technical support and reliable supply of high-quality consumables. This commitment has enabled Global Auto Coatings to build lasting relationships with autobody repairers and industry professionals across the region.
In an industry where market conditions continue to evolve and profitability margins face increasing pressure, innovation and efficiency remain critical. Through its partnership with PPG, Global Auto Coatings offers customers access to a comprehensive portfolio of advanced refinishing solutions and digital tools designed to improve accuracy, productivity, and consistency.
Among these technologies are the PPG MoonWalk®, PPG VisualizIDTM, and PPG LINQTM Color systems, which enable industry-leading colour matching and precise formula retrieval. These solutions ensure exceptional accuracy, even when working with complex two- and three-stage Xirallic finishes.
The highly regarded Envirobase® High Performance waterborne basecoat system continues to be a cornerstone of the offering. Known for its ease of use and robust performance, the system delivers consistent results regardless of body shop climate conditions.
To meet the needs of a diverse customer base, Global Auto Coatings also supplies Selemix® , another PPG brand, offering high-quality coatings, innovative solutions, and expert guidance. The aqua and solvent ranges are available, both of which offer extensive mixing toner ranges suited for commercial and light industrial applications. These products are supported by ISO-compliant certification standards, ensuring long-term durability under South Africa’s demanding sunlight and environmental conditions.
Additional refinishing brands available include QUICKLINE® and NEXA® AUTOCOLOR 2K® systems, further strengthening the company’s comprehensive product portfolio.
According to Rivenn Pillay, the industry has also seen significant growth in the informal sector, where price sensitivity is a key factor.
“The informal sector has shown a dramatic increase, which is extremely price sensitive. Our strong focus on customer service has built significant loyalty, which keeps our colour matching department exceptionally busy. On average, we mix between 80 and 100 accurate colours per day for our clients.”
A testament to the company’s approach is the loyalty of many long-standing clients who have remained with Global Auto Coatings since its early days. “Many of our original customers still support us daily. That makes us incredibly proud and reassures us that we must be doing something right. While the market is highly competitive, we remain committed to delivering continued colour innovation and experienced technical support to our autobody shop partners.”
Looking ahead, the company remains focused on strengthening its presence within the automotive refinishing sector while maintaining its reputation for service excellence. As Rivenn concludes: “At Global Auto Coatings, we are more than just a paint supplier, we support success — and we stand by adding colour to your life.”
