ANGELA’S PICNIC SETS RECORDS
Way back in 1983 Angela Heinz founded the petrol head delight of Angela’s Picnic. Over the years it has become a massive motoring showcase for all makes of cherished vehicle drivers and collectors. This year’s record attendance of over 800 enthusiasts was held at the Riversands Farm Village in Midrand. It was held in glorious mid-winter sunshine and helped to raise funds for cancer research for a number of key recipients like Greendale House and Hospice units among others.
Angela had a number of motor trade accolades to her name included being a ‘pink’ Morgan +8 sports car, a hot rod racer – and was the founding member of KTM Motorcycles in South Africa. Her drive and passion for cars during her lifetime was all about meeting like-minded motoring enthusiasts.
This year at the Riversands Farm Village in Midrand, where the displayed vehicles represented the ‘history of mobility’, the event raised over R1 million in support of palliative care with its massive support base from well-connected vehicle brands. Every year to date with standout vehicles such as Jaguar’s E-type convertible, Rolls-Royce’s, Fiat, Jeeps and Land Rover, along with Opel and Peugeot – to name just a few, were well represented that day.
Organiser Paul Williams was upbeat about this year’s runaway success. Entry was free and once again enjoyed by a bevy of stallholders and live entertainment on offer. Again, it was nice to see that the rock ’n roll era of mobility is still thriving and well supported by today’s family of enthusiasts.
