A PASSIONATE AUTOMOTIVE REFINISHER BREAKING DOWN BARRIERS
Collision Pros Autobody Repair Centre, located in Edenvale, Johannesburg, is home to Alvinah Matlala – a dedicated and passionate spray painter whose career journey took an unexpected but fulfilling turn. Initially envisioning a future in science and health, Alvinah found her true calling in the automotive industry. As she puts it, “I’m in love with what I’m doing right now!”
Alvinah began her journey at Collision Pros in a different role but consistently expressed her desire to train as a spray painter. Recognising her commitment and enthusiasm, management supported her transition into the trade. She completed her apprenticeship with the support of Mbunutu Training Centre and has since qualified as a professional spray painter.
Her creativity and love for the craft shine through in her work. Alvinah continues to refine her skills with the backing of her company and takes pride in mentoring others. Currently, she supervises three apprentices, sharing her knowledge and inspiring them through hands-on training and guidance.
Alvinah emphasises the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance. She believes in setting clear boundaries – leaving work at work and home at home – to ensure personal well-being and professional focus.
In a traditionally male-dominated industry, Alvinah offers empowering advice to women aspiring to enter the field:
