VW FLEET ADMINISTRATOR CONVICTED OF 595 FRAUD CASES IN PORT ELIZABETH SCHEME
Hawks saw the successful prosecution of Christo de Jager who was found guilty of these crimes by the Gqeberha specialised crimes court recently. The court heard how for a seven-year period De Jager got away with these invoices of over-payment from the VW repair concerns to pay-out fraudulent invoice amounts that were submitted with fake invoices by a supply approved repair centre, Autotrust. Eventually on an internal audit from VW, they discovered discrepancies in their invoices submitted. The loss is estimated by VW at around R12 million before the scam was discovered and before De Jager’s first arrest in March this year.
