FORD’S RANGER RAPTOR SE

The Ranger Raptor SE is Ford’s extreme performance bakkie. We were fortunate enough to get up to speed in living ‘The Ranger Life’ in the range topping Special Edition (SE).

There is no mistaking the Ranger Raptor SE at first glance thanks to its increased track (150mm) and ride height (51mm) from the Ford Performance chassis. Matt Black finishes with twin black racing stripes and embossed matt black Ford Logo Mesh Grille with 17” black alloy wheels round off its wild imposing appeal.

We got better acquainted with the Ranger Raptor SE in its signature smooth ride and drive around town. It’s only when you take it off the beaten track that it really comes into its own. Fitted with race bred suspension, including 2.5” FOX Racing Shocks, delivers 30% more-wheel travel compared to standard Rangers, and Position Sensitive Damping that moderates damping forces in response to changing driving scenarios.  Together with General Grabber AT3 all-terrain tyres and a large 2.3mm underbody bash plate, the Ranger Raptor SE makes short work of even the roughest terrain. Powered by Ford’s 157kW 2.0 litre Bi-Turbo diesel engine it punches out 500Nm of torque through the 10-speed automatic gearbox, and is more than ample and super fuel efficient as well. Ford’s Terrain Management System allows you 6 precision driving modes including Baja Mode for optimum off-road performance. Packed with all the essential off-road extra’s including red front tow hooks, the Ranger Raptor SE is built expedition ready complete with an aluminium lockable Mountain Top black roller shutter to secure any precious cargo in the load bay.

Inside its premium spacious interior, you will find high-grain leather seats detailed with red stitching on the steering wheel and a Raceway Grey instrument panel with 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Sync3 software. You are also able to download the FordPass App to communicate with your car from your phone which allows you to lock and unlock your Raptor SE or Pre-Cool the cabin before setting out.

The Ranger Raptor SE retails for R999 150 and since production of the current-generation Ranger range has come to an end in preparation for the new-generation Ranger at Ford SA’s Silverton Plant, it’s a good time to take advantage of this first-class special edition.

Classic COrner & REStoration

Classic cars are the next big investment. As such the sector of restoration is growing in the realms of collision repair and it’s definitely the “sexier” side of the business. There are many opportunities to create exotic special-builds as well as keep timeless beauties in mint condition.

DRIVEN

With three motoring-journalists on our staff, we are able to test drive and review some of the latest models available on our roads as well as attend the latest model launches.

TRAINING

Knowledge is power. Training is key to up-skilling repairers as models launch onto our local roads faster than we can count. We also need to grow new talent into the collision repair industry. Courses are available to help and organisations are in place to train - this information is in Industry Index.
