CALCULATE PAINT QUOTATION VALUES ACCURATELY WITH PAINTWIZZ

The roll out of an all-new paint quotation computer package was recently revealed by PaintWizz in South Africa. This unique and incredibly accurate panel by panel paint repair calculator covers over 450 popular vehicles on our roads and is constantly updated as more models are captured on the system.

PaintWizz is the result of over three years of constant research and development by two expert body shop owners, Eben Jansen and Eddie da Silva. Countless hours were spent to refine the PaintWizz system to accurately calculate the paint volumes required to coat specific vehicle parts in line with actual repair operations.

The system uses the paint toner prices and formulations from several different water-based paint brands to calculate the average price of each individual colour as it is “ready for use”.

This detailed research showed that even in the same colour group, there can be substantial price differences. The reality is that you cannot generalise the cost of a colour without analysing the exact toners and volumes contained in the formulation.

The system facilitates all colours, from the very basic to complicated multi-stage Xirallic pearl coatings. PaintWizz also accounts for other coatings required in the paint process like clearcoats, hardeners and primer applications.

Users can select from a range of different paint repair activities from blend-in, surface paint, repair size and even if new parts should be painted on the inside or not.

PaintWizz quotations show the labour, materials, as well as base coat mix volumes for each individual panel, giving transparency to the system. This should be a great help for spray painters, estimators and business owners to control cost and prevent underquoting.

A set-up cost section addresses activities that are not related to the size of the repair, such as colour mixing and matching, spraying of test plates, tinting, cleaning of spray equipment and the consumables necessary for these processes. It also includes the cost of oven baking based on the latest diesel prices.

As you can imagine there were many complexities which they needed to overcome in the three-year research of PaintWizz, along with considerable variations in the painting process.

Overall, the end result will deliver a much more modernised form of quoting for paint repairs. There is no longer an excuse not to know your costs ahead of time with PaintWizz. You can now get an accurate costing for quotations, no matter how big or small the panel.

Classic COrner & REStoration

Classic cars are the next big investment. As such the sector of restoration is growing in the realms of collision repair and it’s definitely the “sexier” side of the business. There are many opportunities to create exotic special-builds as well as keep timeless beauties in mint condition.

DRIVEN

With three motoring-journalists on our staff, we are able to test drive and review some of the latest models available on our roads as well as attend the latest model launches.

TRAINING

Knowledge is power. Training is key to up-skilling repairers as models launch onto our local roads faster than we can count. We also need to grow new talent into the collision repair industry. Courses are available to help and organisations are in place to train – this information is in Industry Index.
